This section of our website provides an overview of what to expect when tendering for public sector contracts and signposts suppliers to other sources of helpful information. While public sector tendering may appear daunting at first, there is a wealth of information and support available to suppliers.
Public Contracts Scotland
Public Contracts Scotland (PCS) is a free resource for suppliers interested in supplying to the public sector. The site includes a searchable database of tender opportunities from across the public sector, and registered users can sign up for email alerts. Scotland Excel advertises all tender opportunities on this site. PCS is operated by the Scottish Government, and they also publishes procurement advice and guidance for suppliers on their website.
The Scottish Government's Supplier Journey is free to use and contains information for suppliers on how to bid for public sector goods, services and health and social care contracts. The Supplier Journey will be updated to reflect changes to legislation, policy and best practice making sure that suppliers receive the latest guidance and advice.
Digital Office for Scottish Local Government
The Digital Office for Scottish Local Government works in partnership with Scotland’s local authorities to drive digital transformation across the country. This "digital first approach" helps councils to provide better services to their citizens.

All public sector tender opportunities above a certain threshold are published in the Official Journal of the European Union (OJEU), and a free-to-use version is available on their website. There are also several paid-for subscription services which publish public sector tender information, usually packaged with notification alerts and a range of ancillary services.
Supplier Development Programme
The Supplier Development Programme (SDP) is an essential port of call for advice and support on public sector procurement. SDP is a partnership between local authorities and the Scottish Government which provides free training, information and events to help businesses become tender ready for public sector opportunities. Scotland Excel regularly attends SDP 'Meet the Buyer' events to promote future tender opportunities.
Business Gateway - a publicly funded service provided by local authorities - can provide impartial advice and support for growing your business across public and private sectors.
Membership organisations such as local Chambers of Commerce or the Federation of Small Businesses may also have useful information and events relating to public procurement.
