Scotland Excel joined forces with the Local Government Digital Office recently to host a pioneering event about digital transformation.
The ‘Delivering on Digital’ event was supported by business technology company DXC and welcomed delegates from across Scottish local government to explore the power of new technologies and how they can transform the way services are delivered.
Hugh Carr, Scotland Excel’s Head of Strategic Procurement, said: “Digital transformation is fundamental to local government because of the advantages it will bring citizens. It’s not a ‘bolt on’, but something which is integral to how councils work across all service areas.
“New approaches can accelerate the pace of change. So can making better use of national contracts and innovative routes to market to identify digital solutions. It was a pleasure to come together with the Digital Office to deliver our extremely worthwhile Delivering on Digital event.”
Councillor John Shaw, Convener of Scotland Excel, added: “This unique event brought together key stakeholders from across local government to explore the possibilities offered by new technologies. The sessions on the day gave real food for thought on how we create an environment that supports the development of digital solutions to ultimately make a difference to people’s lives.”
The event’s sessions focused on the power of data analytics to improve service delivery, the latest technology for verifying identity so citizens can access services from any location, and how mobile workers can access information remotely to provide on-the-spot solutions.
Martyn Wallace, Chief Digital Officer for Scottish Local Government, said: “Scotland’s local authorities are on a digital journey that will fundamentally change the way they provide services to their citizens and it is vital that our partners continually learn and benefit from each other.
“Local authorities must embrace the fast-paced technological changes that are happening all around us and create an environment where digital solutions can make a difference to people’s lives. Thanks to the support of DXC, we’ve brought together key stakeholders from across local government to explore the ‘art of the possible’.”
Delivering on Digital took place on Thursday 21 February 2019 at DXC Technology in Bishopton, Renfrewshire.
