New Business Analysis Programme Launched

The Academy and the Improvement Service launch accredited Business Analysis Programme

Business Analysts

The Scotland Excel Academy and the Improvement Service are joining forces to launch a new Business Analysis Programme that will deliver a new generation of much needed business analysts for Scotland.

The accredited programme, starting on 20 August, has been developed after research highlighted a national shortage of business analysis expertise and following requests from councils keen to upskill new or aspiring business analysts.

The seven-month course blends face-to-face delivery with online learning that focuses on the practical application of organisational analysis, as well as planning and implementing outcomes from the analysis. The programme also develops skills in managing projects, making evidence-based decisions, and engaging stakeholders in the commercial aspects of analysis and innovation. All components are set within a local government context.

Ian McNaught, The Academy’s Strategic Organisational Development Manager said: “We’re delighted to be partnering with the Improvement Service to deliver the Business Analysis Programme 2019.

We’ve seen an increased demand for this type of work-based learning, where both the employee and the council see immediate benefits instead of the traditional method of classroom only teaching.

Public sector organisations realise the importance of upskilling and retaining employees and business analysts are a key resource for today’s modern council.”

The programme aligns learning with practical application through work-based projects.  The core modules are accredited by the Scottish Qualifications Authority (SQA) and, on completion, students have a choice of additional modules accredited by SQA, the Chartered Management Institute (CMI or Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply.  This provides a uniquely personalised pathway to developing the skills most relevant to each student’s current role and future career goals.
