Scotland Excel Annual Conference 2019
Our two-day annual conference takes place on 16 and 17 April with this year’s theme focusing on: Community.
Our annual event for Scottish councils will take place at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Glasgow, and will explore our local communities, our procurement community and our communities of the future.
Day one speakers include Rob Littlejohn, Head of Business at Scotland’s Futures Forum. He will focus on how our communities of the future will operate in terms of transport, technology, health, education, environment and the economy – and the huge impact this will have on how councils deliver services.
Another forward-looking session by CivTech, Glasgow City Council and Stirling Council will look at using innovation to solve public sector challenges, before the Digital Health and Care Institute addresses delegates about digital health.
The day one keynote from Professor Colin Lindsay, focusing on collaborative innovation for the public sector, will be followed by a Brexit panel Q&A, facilitated by our Head of Strategic Procurement, Hugh Carr.
Day two starts with the keynote address from Faron McLellan of KIMO UK, an international organisation that works to protect our oceans, while also promoting practical solutions to local environmental issues.
Sunnyside School of Conservation in Glasgow will talk about its #NaeStrawAtAw campaign and Zero Waste Scotland will update delegates on their work to recycle plastics. Workshops on preventing micro plastic pollution will follow.
Day two will also include updates from three of our councils: Aberdeen City about its strategic commissioning model, and Edinburgh City and Borders will talk about development and delivery.
